Mike Gravel and his teen instigators, in a scene from "American Gadfly"

You might remember when Mike Gravel (gruh-VELL), former senator from Alaska, ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2008. He didn't get far, and he got even less traction when he ran again in 2020.

Gravel admitted it was not to win, but to provide a critique within the Democratic party of what he sees as American imperialism. The story of Gravel and the teenagers who helped convince him to run in 2020 is told in the film "American Gadfly," screening online starting today (April 27th) in this year's Ashland Independent Film Festival.

AIFF Artistic Director Richard Herskowitz returns with one of the students, David Oks, and director Skye Wallin, to give a preview.
