A quick glance at news headlines makes at least a few people think we're living in the dark ages.

But it could be quite the opposite, if not immediately. In the book Age of Discovery: Navigating the Risks and Rewards of Our New Renaissance, author Ian Goldin and Chris Kutarna draw parallels with the original Renaissance, which followed widespread plague and death.

And they wrote their book before the COVID-19 pandemic, which perhaps underscores their thesis. We explore it in this interview from 2018.
