Bring the whole family and spend a relaxing afternoon on Sunday, September 26th, when Ashland’s very own hula halau (school) Ka Pi’o O Ke Anuenue presents the Ashland Aloha Festival at Grizzly Peak Winery. The festival promises to have something for everyone – hands-on cultural workshops for all ages, live Hawaiian music, and an authentic hula show. Hawaiian food by Auntie Carol’s Hawaiian Café, and wine by Grizzly Peak will also be available for purchase. Cultural workshops for all ages start at 1:30 pm and include lei-making with fresh flowers, ipu-making where participants will make and learn how to play their own gourd drum, a hula lesson, ‘ukulele lesson with visiting musician Keale, plus demonstrations of cultural practices like ‘ohe kapala (traditional fabric stamping technique. Live music by award-winning musician Keale Kupuna with Bill Griffin starts at 3:30 pm and the hula show featuring ancient style and contemporary hula begins at 4 pm.
