U.K. Cathedrals Try New Approach

RACHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Rachel Martin. Cathedrals in the U.K. are going to great lengths to try to draw in a younger generation of potential parishioners. And of course, nothing says communing with the divine like a round of miniature golf. Rochester Cathedral, just south of London, turned its insides into a mini golf course, and the Norwich Cathedral, a couple hours away, installed a carnival ride inside its nave. It's a response to the Archbishop of Canterbury, who said last month, if you can't have fun in a cathedral, you don't know what fun is. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.

Recent threats to federal funding are challenging the way stations like JPR provide service to small communities in rural parts of the country.
