Democrats are leading the presidential and gubernatorial races in Oregon, according to a new poll conducted by an independent Portland survey firm.
Hillary Clinton holds a 13-point lead over Donald Trump in the presidential race, according to a Sept. 1-6 poll from DHM Research. Gov. Kate Brown leads Republican challenger Bud Pierce, 43 percent to 35 percent, in the race for governor.
In both cases, however, a relatively large percentage of voters are undecided.
John Horvick, DHM vice president, said he was struck that nearly 40 percent of voters are not supporting either Trump or Clinton. He said in large part, that is a sign of their unpopularity.
Here's how DHM found it:
Hillary Clinton (D): 38 percent
Donald Trump (R): 25 percent
Gary Johnson (L): 10 percent
Jill Stein (G): 3 percent
Somebody else: 8 percent
Probably won't vote: 2 percent
Don't know: 15 percent
Horvick said the governor's race so far looks like what he would expect to see for a race between generic Democratic and Republican candidates. Democrats have won the seat in the last eight gubernatorial contests.
All told, 18 percent said they were undecided in the governor's race. Another 3 percent said they would support someone else and 1 percent said they probably would not vote.
The survey of 517 registered voters carries a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.
