Oregon Man Who Made Presidential Death Threats Pleads Guilty

A Medford man who made death threats against President Barack Obama and FBI agents pleaded guilty Monday to related charges.

Police arrested John Michael Roos, 62, in April outside the Veterans Administration facility in White City, Oregon, after he made the threats online.

Officers recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol from Roos’ truck at the time. They also found firearms and pipe bombs in Roos’ home.

Several of Roos' criticisms of the president remain online.

"I guess you can't tell the world you hate Obama so much you will shoot him. Silly me. Oh well now you guys get the kinder softer John not LOL," Roos wrote in a Facebook post days before he was arrested.

Roos also made the threats against FBI agents that alluded to the Jan. 26 shooting death of LaVoy Finicum, an Arizona rancher who participated in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge takeover.

"FBI acts like they are something to be feared after ambushing American patriots in Oregon," Roos wrote in a Jan. 30 Facebook post. "We will snipe them with hunting rifles everywhere."

Roos faces up to 10 years in federal prison at his March 16 sentencing hearing.
