Rogue Valley Symphony Masterworks #2 Concert featuring several French composers
The Rogue Valley Symphony will take you on a musical journey to France during its Masterworks #2 concert with the brilliant programming of Maestro Martin Majkut. The performances will be Friday, October 20th at 7:30pm and Saturday, October 21st at 3:00pm at the Craterian Theater in Medford and Sunday, October 22nd at 3:00pm at the SOU Music Recital Hall in Ashland.
Your French tour includes four pieces that are as fascinating as they are tuneful. The evening begins with “On a Spring Morning”, a gorgeous composition by Lili Boulanger, the early 20th-century French genius who sadly left us at age 25 in 1918.
The melodic and virtuosic “Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra” by Henri Tomasi explores the range and nuance of the dynamic instrument. Sensational trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden’s “splendid, brilliant” playing (Gramophone Magazine) will keep you on the edge of your seat in the Tomasi and an arrangement of Claude Debussy’s famed piano work “Rêverie, for trumpet and strings.” Add to this the expansive beauty and grandeur of César Franck’s greatest work, the “Symphony in D minor”, and your musical journey to France will be complete!
