Thousands of Oregonians are without power due to downed trees and power lines from the heavy snow that fell Monday morning.
As of Monday afternoon Pacific power had more than 40-thousand residents out of power, mainly in the Roseburg area. Joe Harwood with Eugene Water and Electric, (or E-WEB) reports more than 12- thousand customers without power. “The hardest hit areas are south Eugene, southeast Eugene, and the McKenzie River Valley. That’s primarily due to all the trees that came down because of the heavy snowfall and took power lines down with them.”Harwood says it’s difficult to estimate when power will be restored. But it could be a few days for some residents, possibly longer for those in the McKenzie River Valley. One of the challenges is that with so many power outages in the region, it’s hard to get extra backup crews to help. Harwood says many of the line crews that would normally be available to help are still down in California, helping to rebuild Paradise.
