Arlo Parks grew up in a household surrounded by a melting pot of different influences from music to literature. She learned French as a first language, though she describes her grasp of it as "very conversational." The metaphors and poetry that permeates her debut album Collapsed In Sunbeams were elements she had a better grasp of with English.
By her mid-teens, Parks started taking guitar lessons and tinkering around with Garage Band on her computer. Her early influences of Portishead, Frank Ocean, Massive Attack, and other idiosyncratic bands have all contributed to her current sound.
Labelled "the voice of generation Z" and "the voice of a super sad generation," Parks takes it all in stride, choosing to focus on writing what she sees with her own eyes, including joy and hope for the future.
