On the new album Beginners, Christian Lee Hutson displays a rare combination of brilliantly intricate fingerpicked guitar lines and evocative stories that illuminate the everyday characters and events of life.

Hutson got started making music as a teenager, and early releases were heavily influenced by both the Carter Family and 80s pop music. As he's grown and developed, his unique style of songwriting has garnered him some well-known fans, including fellow musician Phoebe Bridgers, who signed on to produce Hutson's new record.

He joined us from his house in Los Angeles for a discussion of how he's getting through the pandemic, and played a few beautiful tunes from his new record.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
