Born in Idaho, singer-songwriter Josh Ritter recorded and released his self-titled debut in 1999 after graduating from Oberlin College with a self-created “American History through Narrative Folk Music” major. While attending college in Oberlin, Ohio, Ritter got his first listen to Leonard Cohen and Gillian Welch. He instantly fell in love with their songs and dropped his neuroscience major in favor of the pursuit of music.

With classic folk venues like Club Passim, Boston was the place Ritter chose to follow his dream. His albums have been praised for their beautifully spare songwriting, textured with complex imagery and simple lyrics, which has drawn comparisons to Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and Leonard Cohen. His latest release, The Beast In Its Tracks, was released in 2013.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
