Three weeks ago, the Britt Music and Arts Festival in Jacksonville, Oregon canceled its world-famous mid-summer classical orchestra season due to coronavirus concerns.
The festival had hoped to hold onto what remained of its rock and pop concert offerings during the rest of the summer. But Governor Kate Brown’s announcement Thursday that large gatherings such a concerts and sports events will remain off-limits until at least September was the final nail in the coffin.
Among the casualties were shows by Tanya Tucker, Trampled By Turtles and Ben Harper. Britt officials say they’re working with management of many of the artist whose shows were canceled this summer to re-book for the 2021 season.
The festival is asking disappointed concert-goers to consider donating the price of their tickets to the hard-pressed non-profit, or at least to apply the value to next season, rather than getting a refund.
Refunds will be available for those who request them by June 30th.
