Claude Knobler and his wife already had two kids of their own when they decided to adopt a little boy from Ethiopia. 

In the process of trying to mold him as a human being, Claude realized the impossibility of trying to make a person turn out a certain way... even with his biological kids. 

He tells the story of realizing this in his memoir More Love, Less Panic
