Maybe the parents of the baby boomers were a little on the lax side, often telling their kids just to be home in time for dinner. 

The parenting pendulum swung in a big way since that time. 

Now the frequent complaint is that parents are TOO involved in their kids' lives, negotiating obstacles that children need to handle themselves.
