Anybody who remembers rotary-dial telephones may still be amazed by how smart cell phones have become.

And the phones may just be a step along a much longer pathway. 

Anyone for smart cups, smart pens, smart umbrellas?  Don't scoff, you probably take pictures with your phone. 

David Rose is an instructor at the MIT Media Lab, and he envisions a future in which many objects besides phones will be labeled "smart." 

His book is Enchanted Objects
