The Oregon Department of State Lands has denied a request by the Jordan Cove Energy Project to extend the deadline for a key state permit.
Pembina – the Canadian company behind the Jordan Cove project – wants to build a 229 mile-long pipeline to a new liquefied natural gas export terminal in Coos Bay, on Oregon’s south coast. The company needs a state permit for dredging in Coos Bay, as well as for the pipeline’s hundreds of river and wetland crossings.
This week, the Oregon Department of State Lands told Jordan Cove that it won’t give the company more time to explain how it plans to address a number of concerns raised by state agencies and the public. The department’s Ali Ryan Hansen says the company has had plenty of time.
"Since the Jordan Cove application was submitted in November 2017, DSL has twice agreed to suspend review of the application and four times agreed to extend the permit decision deadline," she says.
Jordan Cove says new requests for information from other Oregon agencies make it impossible to meet the Department of State Lands’ January 31st deadline. The company asked for two more months.
Hansen says the department will make a decision on the permit at the end of the month.
