Thu 9 AM | Psychiatrist says the term 'trauma' is being applied too freely

We've come to grips in recent years with the prevalence of trauma, and how trauma from childhood can change a person permanently.

It's not all necessarily true, says Dr. Michael Scheeringa. He is a psychiatrist in clinical practice and a professor at Tulane University, well-versed in the treatment of trauma.

Scheeringa points up what has been proven to work, and what has become accepted as gospel in his book The Trouble with Trauma: The Search to Discover How Beliefs Become Facts. The book contains some myth-busting, but also some identification of the solid ground in treating trauma.

The author stops by for an overview.
