Just based on all the things he could do, Eugene Bullard was an American superstar.
He could send people to the canvas in the boxing ring, he could fly planes when few people could, he had battlefield combat skills. But because he was a Black man in the America of the early 20th century, his home country got to know little about him.
His exploits in France and elsewhere are told in the book All Blood Runs Red: The Legendary Life of Eugene Bullard—Boxer, Pilot, Soldier, Spy.
Tom Clavin and Phil Keith wrote the book; Tom Clavin visited in 2019 to talk about the main character.
