The pandemic has been tough on artists of all kinds. Art generally depends upon people gathering to experience it, and gatherings are discouraged where they are not simply forbidden.
However, art is still being created despite, and in many cases because of, the pandemic. Ashland-based musical duo Caballito Negro (Tessa Brinckman on flutes, Terry Longshore on percussion) released a new composion on New Year's Day, with a visual component provided by artist Maria de Los Angeles. All three artists join us to talk about the collaboration.
And later in the hour, we bring in piano master Alexander Tutunov. He talks about the challenge of teaching and performing in a world of video screens.
