The old Lakeview station of the N-C-O, now a private home.

The big railroads of the west were still being built in the 1880s. What became the Nevada–California–Oregon Railway was distinctly not one of them.

In fact, the N-C-O was not even a full-size line, opting to build a narrow-gauge route from Reno to Lakeview through Alturas. Only a few segments (now standard gauge) remain, but a new historical society has been formed to document the history of the line.

Shane Starr is the president of the society, formed in Alturas. He visits to sketch out the plans for commemorating the history of the railway.
