Claude Shannon's talents extended beyond computing.

The things we expect computers to do today would seem like miracles to people just a couple of generations ago.

Can you name the inventor of the computer? Actually, that's a hard question.

How about the creator of the bit? The concept of bits of information traces back to Claude Shannon, who came up with the term in 1948.

He's the subject of a film screening online as part of the Ashland Independent Film Festival, "The Bit Player." Director Mark Levinson visits with details of the work.
