An unexpected bargaining session took place Tuesday between the Medford School District and its teachers' union. The talks ended with both sides reporting positive movement toward a solution.

Superintendent Phil Long reported progress, but neither side would elaborate on how far they have budged in terms of compensation, working conditions, or early retirement.

The Mail Tribune reports that late Tuesday night, a bargaining team representative from the teachers' union said negotiations are at a 'crucial juncture." The unions' team planned to work into the night preparing for today's talks, scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The union continues to advocate for a two-year contract, but the district is holding firm on a three-year pact.
