Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s chief of staff has resigned. Brown issued a press release Friday announcing the immediate resignation of Brian Shipley.
Brown thanked Shipley for his service and gave no reason for his departure.
Shipley was one of Brown's first hires when she became governor in February in the wake of John Kitzhaber's resignation.
Shipley has served in state government in a variety of roles over the years including under the administrations of the previous two governors, John Kitzhaber and Ted Kulongoski. Shipley also worked with Kate Brown when she was secretary of state and when she served in the Oregon Legislature.
Brown said she's hiring Kristen Leonard as her new chief of staff. Leonard is currently the director of public affairs at the Port of Portland.
