Kitzhaber Expected To Announce Re-Election Bid

Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber has scheduled an announcement at a Portland elementary school where he says he'll discuss his plans for the coming year.

Kitzhaber has been widely expected to seek an unprecedented fourth term in the Oregon governor's office. Despite not officially running, the Democrat has been raising money-- $250,000 so far this year.

The announcement for this event simply says Kitzhaber will "discuss his plans, but the invitation arrived on letterhead that reads, "Kitzhaber for Governor 2014."

Kitzhaber enters the race with wide name recognition. Democrats maintain a healthy voter registration edge in Oregon.

Two Republicans have jumped in the race so far: State representative Dennis Richardson and central Oregon rancher Jon Justesen.

The invitation to the governor's event leaves little doubt as to the Democrat's future plans.
