Several counties will vote in November on versions of a “Second Amendment Protection” measure.

The measure expands the definition of firearms and limits enforcement of firearms in laws. If passed, it would mandate that definitions of firearms be interpreted as including firearm accessories and ammunition.

In general, it would put the county on record as opposing state efforts to curtail gun ownership rights.

Jackson County's version is measure 15-181, the Right to Bear Arms Amendment.  Penny Okamoto of Ceasefire Oregon is against the measure.

Oregon's list of statewide ballot measures in the November election includes a measure on abortion.

Measure 106 would change the state constitution and forbid the spending of public money on abortions.

A coalition called Oregon Life United is leading the campaign to pass the measure.

When Gov. Kate Brown was first swept into office by scandal, she benefited from comparisons to the man she was replacing, Gov. John Kitzhaber.

Reporters often characterized Kitzhaber as a lone wolf, a policy wonk, private.

Brown was different.

The Republican candidate for Oregon governor, Rep. Knute Buehler, called Friday for a shake-up in leadership at the state’s troubled public school system.

But in accusing Gov. Kate Brown of failing to adequately lead Oregon's public schools, Buehler suggested a misunderstanding of who does what job at the top of the state's education bureaucracy.

A new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California suggests the fate of Proposition 6, which would repeal last year’s gas tax increase, could rest on what voters think they’re being asked to decide.

You can add Robert Rodriguez to a growing list of Angelenos living right on the brink of homelessness. Rodriguez shares his story, talking softly, as he leans on his walker outside his old apartment. He was evicted the day before.

"Everything is gone," he says. "It's all in storage."

Oregon’s long support for abortion rights is being tested on November’s ballot by a group of determined activists pushing an initiative to prohibit state funding for most abortions.

Backers of Proposition 6, aimed at repealing California’s gas tax increases, unveiled a new 2020 ballot initiative on Tuesday just ahead of the November election.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown this weekend reported a pair of $250,000 contributions from a gun control group and from the Democratic Governors Association.

Brown has been a staunch supporter of tightening Oregon’s gun laws and her re-election campaign is now getting help from Everytown For Gun Safety.

That group has received major funding from billionaire Michael Bloomberg, the Wall Street entrepreneur and former New York City mayor.

Oregon's Measure 105 seeks to revoke Oregon's status as a "sanctuary state," which limits local law agencies' cooperation with federal immigration officers. The Oregon AFL-CIO took up a position against the measure. A union rep visits to explain why the union wants the sanctuary status to stay in place.

Up for a vote in November is Oregon's Measure 105, which proposes repealing an Oregon law that forbids local law enforcement from apprehending people who might be violating federal immigration law.

Perhaps nothing on November’s ballot has the potential to generate as much heat as Measure 105, which will dictate the future of Oregon’s 31-year-old sanctuary law.

A vote for Measure 105 would scrub the law, which limits how much help state and local police can give federal immigration enforcement officers. A vote against would keep the law in place.

California Launches New Effort To Fight Election Disinformation

California election officials are launching a new effort to fight the kind of disinformation campaigns that plagued the 2016 elections — an effort that comes with thorny legal and political questions.

Amanda La Bell, the Working Families Party candidate whom many Democrats hoped would serve as an alternative to their disgraced nominee for a seat in the state Legislature, is withdrawing from the race.

A new independent Oregon survey finds that Democratic Gov. Kate Brown has a clear lead over Republican challenger Knute Buehler — and that an initiative to abolish the state’s sanctuary law for immigrants has little support so far.

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Knute Buehler supports a ballot measure that would dismantle Oregon’s 31-year-old sanctuary law. But he also supports the central tenet of that sanctuary law — and would push similar policy as governor.

High taxes. Traffic-clogged freeways. Soaring housing costs.

Oregon National Guard specialist Alek Skarlatos thwarted a terrorist attack. He competed on "Dancing With the Stars" and starred in a Clint Eastwood movie based on his own life.

Now the international hero hopes to become the next Douglas County commissioner.

The use of star power to seek political office is not a new phenomenon. Think Ronald Reagan, Al Franken and, more recently, "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor of New York.

And, of course, there's a former reality TV star in the White House.

Millions Of Dollars Pour Into California's Prop 10 Rent Control Debate

Sep 4, 2018

California voters this fall will decide on Proposition 10, a statewide ballot initiative that would allow cities and counties to greatly expand rent control.

Supporters argue the measure is needed to slow the state’s ever-increasing rents. But there’s strong debate about whether Prop. 10 is the right answer to the state’s affordable-housing crisis.
