FINAL UPDATE: FRIDAY, SEPT. 13, 11:15 a.m. ... Anticipated warmer, drier weather for the next couple of days has firefighters working to solidify the gains they've made over the past week on the remaining lightning-caused fires around the region. Here's the status of the most significant fires, as of the most recent reports:

Lime fire, in the Klamath National Forest: Barely growing to 1,872 acres, up to 45 percent containment. All evacuation orders have been lifted.

Red Bank fire, in Tehama County, CA.: Holding at 8,838 acres, 95 percent contained.

Gopher fire, in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest: Holding at 352 acres, up to 20 percent containment.

All these fires seem well in hand. Unless the situation changes, this will be the final report on these three fires.

ALERT Wildfire

Fire fighters across much of southwestern Oregon and northwestern California are working to get on top of a string of wildfires set off by hundreds of lightning strikes caused by the thunderstorms that rolled through the region Wednesday night.

UPDATE: WEDS. AUG 28, 9:45 a.m. ... The Gyda fire, burning along the 11000-block of Highway 238 in the Applegate Valley, is now 100% lined, and mop-up operations have begun. The fire is estimated to be 55 acres, burning on private and BLM land. GPS mapping is planned today, and may provide a more accurate measure.

CalFire Shasta Trinity Unit

UPDATE: Aug. 24, 9:00 p.m. ... Firefighters are now in mop-up operations on the Mountain fire, about 15 miles northeast of Redding.  After growing rapidly in its first day, the fire was held at 600 acres. It's now 70 percent contained.

All evacuations and road closures have been lifted and the evacuation center at Crosspointe Community Church in Redding is now closed.

The final damage count includes seven homes and sevel other structures were destroyed and five homes and two other structures were damaged. There were three minor injuries reported.

UPDATE: Monday, Aug. 5, 3:30 a.m. ... Containment on the Milepost 97 Fire has reached 55 percent. That said, hand line, dug by fire crews, and bull dozer constructed line completely surround the 13,119 acre fire.

The Tucker Fire has been burning since Sunday afternoon on the southwest edge of the Clear Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Modoc County near the Oregon border. The fire spread rapidly, going from 2,000 acres to 11,000 over the course of Monday night.
