A New, Diverse Take On 'Little Women'

Bethany C. Morrow

Generations of young readers have delighted in reading Louisa May Alcott's Little Women.

More recent generations have questioned some of the premises, like how the father got off so easy being so bad with money, and how people so poor could be so happy. And then there's the issue of just how white the family is.

The Remixed Classics series of books reimagines this and other books from the perspective of diverse authors, aimed at a YA (young adult) audience.

Bethany C. Morrow joins the series with So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix. It features four black sisters coming of age during the Civil War.

Morrow visits to talk about the project of remixing a classic, and how she made the story her own.
