Normally Moist Mendocino Struggles With Water Shortage

Dry conditions in the area of Lake Mendocino in Mendocino County following two critically dry years. Photo taken April 20, 2021

Mendocino is one of the wetter places in our region, with an average rainfall of around 41 inches. But not this year.

The drought affecting the region cut off Mendocino's usual pipeline from the sky, and water supplies are greatly affected. Now water is being trucked into the town to bolster what little wells are delivering.

Ryan Rhoades is the Superintendent of the Mendocino City Community Services District, which is similar to a city government.

He joins us to describe the current situation and the lengths people are going to just to get water for daily use.
