We've gotten past some of the thinking about gender-specific jobs in our culture. Nobody is surprised by a woman doctor or lawyer now.
But a firefighter? If women firefighters were more common, there might not be a Rogue Girls Fire Camp, convening for the second time ever this week (August 20-22).
The camp brings young women ages 16-20 together to get a taste of firefighting as a possible career.
We visit with Ashley Manning, Engineer/Paramedic, Ashland Fire & Rescue, and Samantha Metheny, Deputy Fire Marshal, Medford Fire Department, to talk about the kinds of things the women learn.
