Exchange Exemplar: Fighting For Humans Not To Fight

Which is the default human condition, the one in which we cry when we see other people crying, or the one in which we attack people who are not like us?

Psychologist Jamil Zaki certainly hopes it's the former. That would indicate a deep capacity for empathy, a major trait in making humans... uh, human.

CAN we increase the capacity for empathy? That's one of the central questions in Zaki's book The War For Kindness: Building Empathy In A Fractured World.

We pick up this interview from 2019 and still find it encouraging.
