Jackson County experienced not one, but two major fires just after Labor Day, 2020.
The Almeda Drive Fire still hogs the headlines, because it destroyed so many homes. But the South Obenchain fire was much larger in size, and caused its own kind of damage. Not only homes, but also more than 32-thousand acres of trees and plants.
Several organizations are taking roles in helping landowners restore fire-damaged property, including the Bureau of Land Management making thousands of tree seedlings available.
Chris Mathas at Butte Falls Charter School and Kara Baylog from Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center stop by with an update on the efforts.
If you want to help pot the seedlings, Chris Mathas says to call, 541-821-2151.
Seedlings will be available the 2nd Tuesday of each month, and Kara says to call her at 541-776-7371 (leave a message).
