An Argument To Roll Back 'The Gentrification Of The Internet'

The possibilities of the Internet seemed limitless a couple of decades ago. We could communicate instantly with people around the world, we could share stories and pictures and movies, we could build each other up.

So how did we end up with a place where people say horrible things about each other, and you can click a button so toilet paper shows up on your porch in two days? Jessa Lingel at the University of Pennsylvania argues that the 'net is dominated by the interests of business and capital, and not the people who use it.

Lingel's book is The Gentrification of the Internet: How to Reclaim Our Digital Freedom. We spend time with the author detailing the steps to the current situation... and the steps that might lead away.
