The Compassion Prison Project Takes Trauma-Informed Care Inside

California Department of Corrections

The concept of trauma-informed care has grown in stature in recent years; it is centered on recognizing that people who run into trouble in life have often had adverse childhood experience (ACES).

The Compassion Prison Project formed in California a couple of years ago to bring this knowledge into a state prison in Los Angeles County. Now CPP has an eye on expanding, including into Oregon prisons.

Filmmaker Fritzi Horstman founded CPP; she talks to us about the concepts and practices, and tracks the results so far.
