Harriet Tubman you know. Pretty much any American beyond the age of eight knows about The Underground Railroad and how it helped people escape from slavery. There's a lot to the story and a lot to Tubman, and a lot to learn about some of her allies.
Those include Frances Seward, the wife of Lincoln's Secretary of State, and Martha Wright. Both women worked quietly and tirelessly to advance the cause of abolishing slavery, and worked to get individual slaves and families free.
