The Policy Choices That Contribute To 'Broke In America'

fantareis/Pixabay

The large numbers of tents you see in areas not designated for camping tell a story about our country. You can blame homeless people for their approach to life, but it helps to examine why they became homeless in the first place.

Joanne Goldblum and Colleen Shaddox do just that, in the book Broke in America: Seeing, Understanding, and Ending US Poverty. The authors look at the vast numbers of people living below the poverty line, and the broad array of policy choices made over the years that make crossing that line difficult.

Colleen Shaddox, a journalist, is our guest.
