Doing The Things We Do Well: 'Human Work'

Machines took some of our jobs away. That's been happening for a long time, though, when you stop to think about things like sewing machines and mechanical plows.

But now machines can "think" as well as perform routine tasks, and that endangers a broader range of jobs that people usually do. There's a place for us, though, as those "captcha" pages online demonstrate... we still have greater powers of critical thinking and discernment than artificial intelligence.

We just have to use them, says Jamie Merisotis. He lays out a vision in his book Human Work, demonstrating the things that people--and only people--are good at. The author joins us with an overview.
