Shemia Fagan Runs For Oregon Secretary Of State

Shemia Fagan in the Oregon Senate.

Ballots arrive in Oregon later this week, ready for voters to fill out and send (or hand-carry) back to their county clerks. The presidential race gets a huge portion of the focus this year, but there are plenty of down-ballot races and measures to vote on.

Oregon will choose a new Secretary of State, since Bev Clarno is an interim, appointed after the death of Dennis Richardson. SOS is an important office in Oregon, since its occupant is next in line to be governor; that's how Kate Brown first became governor.

Shemia Fagan is the Democratic candidate, facing Republican Kim Thatcher. Both are currently members of the State Senate. Shemia Fagan is our guest.
