Shasta County Gets A Second-Chance CSA

Providence Gardens of Hope

Anyone who likes their vegetables really fresh knows what a CSA is. It's the shorthand for Community Supported Agriculture, an agreement to buy produce in advance, to receive regular deliveries or pickups during harvest.

The nonprofit Providence International (no relation to the hospital group) is starting a CSA in Shasta County. The Gardens of Hope concept provides more than fresh food; it also provides opportunities for at-risk people--think addiction and/or legal troubles--to work producing the food.

Providence International COO Shawn Kniep and Marketing Director Carolyn Arndt provide details on the operation.
