Norton Smith underway. Note the mosquito netting.

Norton Smith of Talent set out on a canoe trip. That sentence is simple enough, but the subject added quite a bit of complexity.

Norton Smith set out to canoe up the Yellowknife River in Canada's Northwest Territories, a journey near the Arctic Circle that took him 55 days. Fortunately, he brought a camera along and made a documentary, "Toward the Source."

The film airs on Southern Oregon PBS in early September, and Norton Smith visits with us about the film and the reasons for his voyage.
