In some parts of the country, the state can take guns from people who are considered extreme risks to themselves or other people.
California all states in allowing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) in 2016. And since that time, there's been a sharp uptick in use of the law. New research also shows that most of the orders involve men (91%), most of them white (59%).
