Trends Emerge In California's Use Of Gun-Confiscation Law

In some parts of the country, the state can take guns from people who are considered extreme risks to themselves or other people.

California all states in allowing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) in 2016. And since that time, there's been a sharp uptick in use of the law. New research also shows that most of the orders involve men (91%), most of them white (59%).

Garen Wintermute is at the University of California-Davis, Amy Barnhorst directs the BulletPoints project, also at UC-Davis, and Rocco Pallin is Education Director for BulletPoints, and the lead author on the recent research paper.
