The national debate about reforming the health care system tends to veer automatically into politics. 

But there are important realms left behind when that happens: medicine and economics.

The whole point of health care and health insurance reform is to make quality health care and maintenance available to all people, and to make it affordable. 

University of Massachusetts economist Dr. Gerald Friedman studies the issue and advocates for single-payer health insurance. 

He visits the Rogue Valley next week and with the Exchange today.
