You can bet that anyone who works in an emergency room comes away from the experience with a few stories to tell.

But in the interest of patient confidentiality, many of those stories go untold.

Dr. Jay Baruch works in the ER and teaches medicine at Brown University.  He is also a writer of short fiction, including the collection Fourteen Stories: Doctors, Patients and Other Strangers.

We invited Dr. Baruch to join us to tell of his stories of people facing difficult medical decisions--on both ends of the transaction--and why he thinks healthcare providersshould think like creative writers.
