Redwood Highway Fire Destroys Homes In Selma

ODF

Saturday, 8:30 AM: Three homes and at least five outbuildings destroyed by the fire.  The fire itself at 85 percent containment, kept to roughly 50 acres.  One spot fire extinguished downwind from main fire.  Deer Creek Road still closed, evacuations and road closures to be evaluated later in the day.

Friday, 9 PM: Two homes and four outbuildings reported destroyed.  Deer Creek Road and Davis Creek Road under a mix of evacuation orders.  Highway 199 fully open to traffic in both directions.

Friday, 7:19 PM: a wildfire in Selma grew quickly this evening, burning three buildings and forcing evacuations.  By 7 PM, the Oregon Department of Forestry reported the fire covering between 50 and 75 acres, with no estimate of containment.

Residents of the Deer Creek area were told to evacuate (level 3: go), and U.S. Highway 199, the main route between Grants Pass and the coast, was closed intermittently.  Travelers are urged to avoid the area.

ODF reports fire on both sides of the highway.  Fire crews from as far away as Ashland joined in the firefighting effort.  Firefighters could not say whether the three buildings lost were homes or other structures.
