Mary Jo Heath Named New Voice Of MET Radio Network

Mary Jo Heath, who has worked as producer and guest host for the Met over the past nine seasons, will become the fourth full-time radio host in the company’s history this September.

Heath is currently the Senior Radio Producer at the Met.  She was also the anchor for the majority of last season’s broadcasts when Margaret Juntwait’s illness made her unable to host.

Since the inception of the Saturday matinee broadcast series in 1931, the Met has had three full-time hosts: Milton Cross (1931-1975), Peter Allen (1975-2004) and Juntwait (2004-2015), who passed away in June.

The Met radio broadcasts are the longest running classical music series in American broadcast history.

Don Matthews received a B.A. in Music from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters in Vocal Performance from USC. He performed as a member of the San Francisco Opera chorus for three seasons.  He moved to Boston to study and became involved in radio, working at both WBUR and WGBH, where he was a producer for Robert J. Lurtsema.
