Colleagues Remember Dennis Richardson

Dennis Richardson is the first Republican to win statewide office in Oregon in a generation.  He is also now the first statewide office-holder in many years to die in office.

Brain cancer led to the death of Oregon's Secretary of State on Tuesday night, February 26. In his long career in public service, he won not only votes from the public, but the respect of colleagues in both parties.

We gather several guests to talk about the life and work of Dennis Richardson, including former state Rep. Peter Buckley of Ashland, who shared a pivotal committee chair with Richardson, current House GOP Leader Rep. Carl Wilson of Grants Pass, and longtime political reporter Jeff Mapes.

UPDATE: March 1 -- A state funeral for Dennis Richardson, Oregon’s 26th Secretary of State, will be held on Wednesday, March 6, at 2:00 PM in the Oregon State Capitol Building in Salem.

All are invited.

The service will be held in the House of Representatives Chamber, with overflow seating in the Senate Chamber and committee rooms.

Prior to the service, Secretary Richardson’s body will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda starting at 9:00 AM to allow members of the public to pay their respects.
