Changing The Rules On Pesticide Sprays In Oregon

U.S. Fish and Wildlife
The_Jefferson_Exchange_05_22_2015_Hr1B.mp3
Kathryn Rickard describes the discomfort of being sprayed... and testifying about it.

Side-by-side comparisons show Oregon's pesticide rules on forestry spraying are weaker than in other states.

Those rules played a part in the spraying of dozens of homes and people and animals by a helicopter near Gold Beach two years ago.

The incident led to fines and a suspension, but no change in rules.  Oregon house member Ann Lininger wants to see the rules change, and she's made several efforts to change them through the legislature.

Rep. Lininger joins us with an update on the process.

Then, Kathryn Rickard has a few things to say.

She was one of several people who complained of being sprayed by an aerial pesticide application near Gold Beach in 2013, an incident that cost a helicopter pilot his license for a year.

She joins us with details of the incident and what she would like to see happen.
