Bringing Nationalism Back Into The Light

Public Domain
FDR delivering a fireside chat, one of which is cited in the book.

Nationalism is taking on some dark overtones in our time, all over the world.

Historian and National Review senior editor Richard Brookhiser takes the view that nationalism properly employed can be a good thing.  He lays out his vision in the book Give Me Liberty: A History of America's Exceptional Idea

The book features 13 documents that Brookhiser sees as central to who we are as Americans.  And the documents include the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, but other works, as well; speeches and statements from the 17th century through the Reagan administration.  The author visits with details of his choices and what we learn from them.
