JPR Live Session: Brett Dennen (2021)

The California-based singer/songwriter joined us to talk about his new album called See The World, as well as his desire for people to get out and enjoy what life has to offer.

It has been a couple of years since Brett Dennen released a full-length album, but that's not to say he hasn't been busy. In that time, he's put out a pair of EPs, done a bunch of home renovation, and welcomed the birth of a son. Young Van was, in a way, the catalyst for Dennen's new album See The World. "I got the idea for the (title) song just watching him crawl around, and I wanted to write a song in tribute to him and write a song about...what I've seen. And I want you go to experience life."

During the pandemic lockdown, Dennen has also invested effort in another of his loves (and talents) - watercolor. Along with his partner Kristina, he's launched Dennen Goods Co. where he peddles both prints and his remarkable original works.

During the session, Dennen spoke of his love of travel and exploring the outdoors, his approaching to combining live music events with community betterment projects, and we got to hear him him play a couple of tunes from the new album.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
