Carnegie Hall Live: The Atlanta Symphony May 2nd at 8pm

On Friday night, May 2nd at 8pm, JPR's Classics & News Service will broadcast the next concert in the series Carnegie Hall Live, featuring The Atlanta Symphony.

Hailed as “a phenomenon” who “pulls together the most intellectually enticing and emotionally gripping [performances] in New York” (The New Yorker), Robert Spano leads his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a stirring performance of Britten’s towering masterpiece, The War Requiem. The composer created this mammoth meditation against war by juxtaposing Latin texts from the Mass for the Dead with shocking depictions of battle by Wilfred Owen, a British poet who died in World War I.

In partnership with Carnegie Hall and WQXR, Carnegie Hall Live is a season of “must-have” classical music events, broadcast live from the nation’s most famous concert hall. The series includes concerts from all three of Carnegie Hall’s iconic stages: Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall and Stern Auditorium.

Tune in Friday night, May 2nd at 8pm for Carnegie Hall Live with The Atlanta Symphony on the Classics & News Service.
