Castle Rock School in Castella is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. Featuring student-centered instruction, small class sizes, art and music classes, free after-school program and summer camp, free lunch and breakfast for all students, free field trips and outdoor education, and fun family nights and events. Starting May 4, the heart of downtown Ashland will be home to the Saturday Market, running every Saturday until October 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Oak St. This exclusive one block long market provides healthy options, fresh organic produce, artisan foods, and more every week for the locals and travelers passing through. We encourage everyone to join us in supporting local while cultivating community in Southern Oregon.
Jackson County Master Gardener™ Association is proud to announce the 2024 SpringGarden Fair. This is the largest gardening event in Southern Oregon, and this year we arepleased to announce the return of a two-day event on the first weekend in May. Our 2024 Master Gardener class will be selling organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers, as well as Native Plants from our Nursery. Joining us will be local Nurseries and Garden Vendors, there will be Children’s activities, a Food Court, Educational Classes, and Plant Clinic, where you can ask a Master Gardener. Experience artmaking while being inspired directly from nature, surrounded by a beautiful lakeside and the forested hills of the Illinois Valley. You’ll learn how to start a painting or drawing in the field with expert guidance in the plein air process. Each student will choose a scene, and be instructed on the best way to approach and finish their unique project. All skill levels and media are welcome, and plenty of individual instruction will give you the confidence and knowledge to create art on location.
Bee Dazzled by Bees: Join Dave Kollen, Master Melittologist with the Oregon Bee Atlas, on a driving tour of the bee habitats at Upper Table Rock. During stops you will learn the basics about the fascinating lives of bees as we see what’s buzzing. Limited to 10 individuals.

Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Moving Pictures: A Survey Exhibition of Works by Deborah Oropallo and Collaborators." Opening April 18 at 5 p.m., the exhibition invites art enthusiasts to delve into the captivating world of Deborah Oropallo and witness her artistic evolution spanning montage, sculpture, installation, and media work.
More than just a retrospective, "Moving Pictures" amplifies Oropallo's artistic journey, shedding light on her significant contributions to contemporary art. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1954, Oropallo received her BFA from Alfred University and her MA/MFA from the University of California at Berkeley. Initially trained as a painter, she seamlessly integrates mixed media techniques such as photomontage, video, printmaking, and painting into her practice.
The North Coast Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is holding its annual spring native plant sale at their nursery on Saturday May 4 (by appointment only) and Sunday May 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The CNPS volunteer-run nursery is located at Freshwater Farms Reserve (5851 Myrtle Ave., Eureka), a Northcoast Regional Land Trust property.Due to limited onsite parking, attendance is limited on Saturday May 4th and pre-sign up is required: https://northcoastcnpsnursery.org/sale/Sunday the sale is open with no sign up needed. An inventory of plants available is listed at the website. Funds raised go to support the programs of the North Coast Chapter of CNPS.
